This week we spent lots of time at ball games.  The family still hasn't won a game.  On June 22nd they played "The Playboys", a bunch of tobacco chewing boys who are Josh's age.  He plays on their team.  I hope Josh isn't chewing with the rest of the boys.  I think this is such a repulsive habit.  But I'm not naive.  Any way the tobacco chewers beat us 17-16.  This past weekend was our Rogers Family Reunion, held June 17 & 18.  We took this tent trailer out here of Don Johnston's and it was big enough for all of us to sleep in.  Josh sprained his ankle the night before so he didn't stay over night with the rest of us.  He came home with Cathy, Alex and Tara.  Anyway we went up to Louis Peterson's private camp ground.  It is up by Pinedale really a nice place.  Sherree's family was in charge of the Reunion so they made all the arrangements.  After supper of fried chicken, biscuits, potato and Jello salad, punch (everything tasted so good).  We had a program honoring my father (Paul Moroni Rogers).  Sheree read a skit we had given years ago in the big Rogers Family Reunion.  When Roger, Shanna, Loyelin, Ross and Paul were just small and they took part in that program.  Roger, Benda, Rion and Kim all paid honor to daddy by telling of their memories of daddy.  Finally we all went to bed where some slept and some of us didn't, but we awoke ready for a fun filled day and thats what we had.  For breakfast we had scrambled eggs and bacon, biscuits and gravy and orange juice.  After breakfast we had a horse shoe tournament, however we never did finish it  Loye and I were partners and we beat Eric and Yvonne and Rion and Bonnie but Shum and Kathy came along and beat us.  Sherree's family had planned an anything goes game that everyone really enjoyed.  After that we ate lunch of barbecue or ham sandwiches, chips, punch and watermelon.  We finally all went home dirty and tired, but feeling close to each other and good inside knowing we had so many good people who cared about us.  When we got home I had to go right in and bathe so I could go help Louise Kay Hatch and Katie prepare a dinner for a stake High Priest Party.  We fixed steak with mushroom gravy baked potatoes, green salad, rolls and fruit salad.  It was real nice.  Other helped us.  Got up Sunday morning and taught Jason's class at primary.  Bishop Palmer came in and gave them a little talk about morality.  Sister Kathy Tenney wants me to teach this class for the next 3 Sundays.  Guess I can handle this.

Shum and Kathy left today to take Monte to Provo to prepare to leave for his mission to Boston Massachusettes.

We got up about 6:30 A.M. and Dahl took us all over looking for grapes but we didn't find any.  As we got back into town we stopped at the Circle K to get some gas.  After getting the gas Dahl tried to start the pick up but nothing happened.  They worked a while but it just wouldn't start.  We borrowed Mark and Liza's pick up, so we were pretty worried about what had happened to it.  Dahl called Shelley and she came and took me back home with her.  After a while Loye and Dahl came.  We don't know why it wouldn't start and when Dahl tried starting it after a while it started right up.

Shelley fixed us some bacon, eggs, and toast for breakfast.  We called Randy's for Josh but Randy said Josh had already gone.  So we thought he would be over any minute so we waited and waited but he didn't come.  We wanted to be home by noon so we could go to Monte Rogers' missionary farewell.  Finally at 11:30 we decided to start home so we did.  When we got to Payson, we called Dahl to see if he had heard from Josh.  Dahl said he had called and that he was home.  He had come by Dahl's while Shelly was picking me up at Circle K.  He thought we had gone on home and that Dahl and Shelley had gone to church, so he just went on home.  We got behind some slow traffic and came up on the rim.

We took baths and Loye went to a High Council meeting.  We (Jared, Jason and I) went over to Shum and Cathy's to an open house party for Monte.  The Stake President got hung up in a court and didn't get over to set Monte apart until after 10:00 P.M. when we left.

We got up this morning and Loye, Jason and I went to the valley to watch Josh wrestle.  We left home about 6:30.  Lots of traffic coming up the mountain.  We got in the valley around 10:00, and went over to Dahl and Shelley's where Josh was staying.  He said they weren't  doing anything at Apache Jct. except playing around and going tubing down the river.  So he has been working for Dahl the last day and a half.

Dahl and Shelley were going boating with Shelly's sister Leann and Mike her husband.  So we went to the wrestling banquet at Sir George's.  All of the wrestlers were there.  Coach Glen McMumm from Apache Jct. was conducting the program.  They had the coaches from Phoenix College, Mesa Community, ASU, and NAU.  All talk to the boys.  Then they introduced all of the boys and read their statistics, except no one sent any statistics on Josh.  No one from the school thought he was important enough to come down for in fact he didn't even have a suit to wear and had to borrow a singlet from a boy from Benson.  Needless to say he didn't do very good, he got pinned in the first round.  I think he was pretty embarrassed.  After the match Josh went with Randy Hall and Warren Shumway and went to a movie.  We stayed for the rest of the matches then went over to Dahls and spent the night.  We sat up until 1:00 A.M. visiting then we slept on he floor because Jacob's water bed sprang a leak.  But we were so tired it wasn't any trick to go to sleep.

A day that has been uninteresting with not much doing.  I would like to say here that I do not approve of my family wearing shorts.  I think it is vulgar and cheapens a person to report to this.  I know the Lord does not approve of this attire and if anyone thinks its right they are only rationalizing.  I love all my family, but I expect them to keep high standards and stay morally clean.

This morning was so beautiful.  I washed sheets and hung them out to dry.  Then I went up and watched my "Lil Angels" get beat again.

Came home washed and hung some more clothes changed all the sheets.

In the afternoon I went out to watch Jason play ball, but it started blowing dirt and sprinkling a little.  It was blowing so bad that they finally called the game off.

Made some enchiladas for supper.  We rode up to the park and watched some Snowflake wards play ball.  Since we didn't know many of the ones playing it was sort of uninteresting so we came on home.  Watched T.V. a while and went to bed.

Another game for the "Lil Angels" but they got beat again.  Hope they soon learn to play better so they can start winning some games.

Josh went to Heber to work with Loye, Roger, and Jared, but he has to go down to Mesa to get in shape for the All-Star wrestling on Saturday night.  Class AA-A, B, and C schools compete against Arizona's AAA schools.  He didn't have his clothes ready and since he was leaving from Heber, I had to get his clothes ready and take them out to him.  So I got Liza to take us out there.  When we drove up out where they were working.  Roger said to Liza.  "Mark isn't here, you might try Holbrook."  Roger is always teasing her about following Mark.

We came home, fixed supper then went down to watch the family play N.A.S. who beat us.

Tuesday, June 7, 1983

Cristina, Kris, and Tara played ball this morning but they got beat by Barb's Babes.

Loye is the High Counselor over the women's sports so he has been trying to get the baseball games going.  But as yet the stake leaders haven't got everything they need to get started.

This evening we walked up to the park and watched Taylor 4th and 3rd play each other, but we left before they finished and came home and went to bed.

Monday, June 6, 1983

Got up early and went out in the yard and did some raking.  Then came in and fixed breakfast.  The boys all went off to work so I cleaned the desk drawers.  However it doesn't show that I did anything.  No game scheduled this evening.

Jason did have a game, but they got beat.  Robbie was pitching against our team and he did a pretty good job.
Fast Sunday today.  Clark and Angie Rowley had their baby Joseph blessed today.  Lots of their families were there.  Many good testimonies were borne.

Fixed barbecue chicken for dinner with baked potatoes.  One of my boys favorite meal.

Went up to visit with Eve for a while then I went over to Mom's but she wasn't home.  Loye and I rode up to Pinetop to see if we could get some tomato plants, but couldn't.  We stopped at a new Baskin and Robins and bought an ice cream cone.

Came home and went to bed.

Didn't get much done today.  I just felt tired all day.  Went up to the park in the evening to watch "The Rogers Family" play the "Heber Jacks", but the family got beat 10-6.

Friday, June 3, 1983

Got some of my work done during the commercials of "The Little Colonel" starring Shirley Temple about 10:00 am

Liza came by and we went up to Pinetop to get a check from Aschauers a company Loye does work for.  On the way home we bought 2-50' hoses at Thrifty drug.  Loye wanted 1-75' house but they were all sold out.  We came down to Show Low and went to Asia Gardens to eat lunch.  We went in and sat down and they brought menus but no one came to take our orders so we finally got up to go but Pete Louie came in and said he would take our order.  He is the owner of the cafe so he took our order and in no time at all we had our lunch

Came on home, washed and hung some clothes.  Loye, Jared, Josh and Jason all came home from work early.  We decided to call El Rancho and order some supper and here comes Josh with it now so we'll see how good it is.

Thursday, June 2, 1983

Loyelin's Lil' Angels got beat today but it was sure a nicer day then yesterday.  However, the wind was still blowing just not quite as hard but it was still cold.

Nothing happened of interest today we didn't go up to the game as none of the kids were playing.  I made cookies and everyone gorged on them and went to bed.

Wednesday, June 1, 1983

What a lousy day, all day long the wind just howled and it was cold.  We went up in the evening and watched Heber beat Taylor 1st Jrs. and Josh was playing.  It was cold.  Jared played on the men's team and Heber beat them, finally we came home and went to bed to get warm.
