Monday-Today was a busy day at work.  Aunt Ida was gone because her daughter Gola was here from Houston Texas to visit for a few hours as she was on her way to Utah to visit with her daughter Jackie.  Anyway Louise Pearce worked for Aunt Ida and it was her first time to help us out, but she is a good worker.  Maybelle was dressed up as a Halloween Spook and she really did a good job of that.

After work I went to the store to get some stuff for a Halloween party our family was giving tonight.  It turned out pretty good.  We had a Treasure Hunt that led from here to the Sewer Pump to the Graveyard to the bell at the Church house to Solomon Hill to Olson's old house where Roger and Cathy and Kent and Carol had fixed up a spook alley.  They (I didn't get to go through it) said it was pretty scary.  When they got in the garage, Roger shut the door then turned the light on, Kent who was dressed up as an old hermit and all around him was fresh bones they had got at Ed's Super Market.  Roger asked him if he was hungry and after Kent looked around at all the people he yelled food! and started a chain saw.  Needless to say this about started a stampede.

Sunday-Got up, washed dishes and took care of camping gear.  Then Jared, Jason and I went to church and other meetings.  Loye didn't feel too good so he stayed home.  But he did get ready and go to the fireside which was world wide and we watched it via the satellite at the stake center.  Jason sang with the other primary boys and girls of our stake, President Shumway also gave a talk, all before the satellite production.

Jim's 37th birthday.

This past week we have been planning a Halloween party for my family.  Cathy is going to have Carol Hall make a spook alley in her Dad's house.  We plan to have a progressive hunt in order to get to the spook alley and back to the food.  Hope it comes off all right.

Pres. Hancock called Loye and I to his office at the stake center.  Loye has been asked to be the High Councilman over the Special Interest and the Young Special Interest.  Since in this calling he needs his wife to be with him, I had to go to.  I hope I can be enthusiastic and do the things I need to do to make this experience a good one.  We didn't have school Tuesday or Friday (Parent teacher conference) so Friday we went camping.  Loye is working out at the Chevelon Ranger Station, so we went out there.  Loye and I, Jason, Cristina, Tara, and Candon all went.  We went to Chevelon out through Winslow.  That's the 1st time I have gone that way.  Jason had to show us the way.  After I passed the turn-off Jason kept telling me I would have to turn around and go back, but I thought I knew where I was going so we must have gone about 30 miles before (and I don't know why) I turned around and went back to the right turn-off.  We finally got out there about 1 pm.  We went down in the pinions and found a camp-site, then started picking up pinions.  Loye and Jared came down and set up camp, then Jared went home.  We picked up pinions until late then went to camp and fixed supper (biscuits, gravy with hamburger and fried potatoes and onions).  Tasted real good.  Then Cristina and Tara slept in the camper on the pick-up and Jason, Candon, Loye and I slept in the tent.  Candon wanted to know if we were sleeping on rocks.  Saturday we got up about 6 am and fixed some hot chocolate.  We then went out and picked-up more pinions (we must have got about 25#).  We came back to camp and scrambled some bacon and eggs, warmed up the left over biscuits and poured some nice cold pineapple juice and ate breakfast.  After eating we picked up more nuts until we were too tired to do more, so we went back to camp packed everything up then went to the Ranger Station where Loye is doing some remodeling on a house that had burned.  After we had been there for a while, Chan, Brent and Willie came up from Mesa to do some wiring on this house Loye is working on.  After about 2 hours they were through and ready to go home so they went back to the valley and we came on to good old Taylor Town where we all showered and went to bed.

One week since I last wrote in my journal.

This last week Shanna called from Cleveland Ohio where they have lived for the past 1 1/2 years, she said she would be moving to Modesto, California next week.  Jim has been there since September 12, 1983.

Loye, Roger and Jared have been working in Holbrook this week for Jim Hudgins.  Next week they will work out at the Chevelon Ranger Station, remodeling a house that had fire damage.  Sure hope they can have work to do all winter.

What a sad night it was Fri. Oct 21 when Snowflake Lobos met the Show Low Cougars in a football game at the Show Low and were beaten 14-7.  The first time in 10 yrs. (When Show Low started their own High School away from Snowflake) that Show Low has beat the Lobos.  Bobby Hall as we walked away from the game said "I guess it was inevitable, but why in my lifetime?"

We got home from the game about 10 p.m.  Jason and Cristina had gone with us.  Before the game we went to "Guayo's" and ate Mexican food.  When we got home Jason went right to bed and slept until 11 pm, then I woke him up so he could run in the "Midnight Run".  He rode out to the 4 mile bridge with Roger where he ran 3 miles.  Tara and Jared also ran the 3 miles.  Jared came in 5th in his division, Jason was 21st and Tara was 28th.  They got home about 1:30.

This morning we got up and went out to look for pinions.  We took Jason and Cristina.  We first went up to Decker wash and didn't find any so we went on down to Heber, where we found quite a few just off the highway before you get to Circle K.  We picked up 2  #3 cans of pinions besides eating our fill.  We ate lunch out there.

When we came home we hauled a load of trash up to the dump.  Rikki and Mandy went with us.  Later I went to Pioneer Market and bought a few groceries.  Loye watched the Sun Devils and Washington play football on T.V. but I went on to bed.  Jared and Josh are supposed to be at that game

Oct. 20 bought new whirlpool clothes dryer from gas co.

Here it is October 11, 1983 and quite a lot has happened since I last wrote in this journal.  Jerald and Colleen Hatch'es little girl that was handicapped, drowned in the bath tub at their home, it was a tragic thing the way it happened.  Lois wilson (Charlie Hall's sister) passed away she really had asthma bad, but I think she died of a heart-attack, she was about 72, I think.  Snowflake's football team has won their last 3 games the last one being Payson who they beat 19-2.  I'm sure glad.  Eric Ramsey is the quarterback and he has really had a hard time to get going.

Cassie (my oldest grandchild, and a Junior in High School this year) is a Loboette.  The Loboettes do dance routines at the ballgames.  I think Cassie is really good  and does real well.

Yesterday they had a powder puff football game in which Tami Played.  I didn't go down but Tami said she didn't get to play very much.

Yesterday Cathy trimmed my hair.  It was so busy before and now it looks much better. (I think).

This past week has really been a hard one for my friend Maybelle.  Her only sister Lady (Yvonne Beck) had an operation and it was determined that she has cancer.  She has 2 spots on her liver and it was found in her lymph nod glands.  Her sister is such a good, hard-working, God fearing person and she is only 45.  She has 4 grown children, but it seems a pity that she won't be able to enjoy life without this worry of cancer.  She has to start taking chemotherapy which is so hard on a person.  But the family is trying hard to think of all the positive things in Lady's favor and there are many.  They are a good family and help each other all they can.  Rick and Loyelin have been in Phoenix at Rick's Mother's for vacation all week, they will be home sometime today.

Last night our Elders Quorum sponsored a hay-ride and weiner roast it was really nice.  Roger and Cathy and Kris and Loretta Pringle were in charge.

October 1 was Josh's 18th birthday and Heather's 6th birthday.  October 4th was Rick's 25th birthday and October 7th was Jacob's 4th birthday.
